Understanding the ABCs of Hair Fall

Hair shedding is a completely normal thing as on an average, we end up losing about 80-100 strands per day. However, if the count is more than the number, then well, you may have a hair fall issue. While there are several potential triggers of hair fall, it becomes a tad bit difficult to pinpoint the exact reason why your strands are falling out.

In no particular order, the reasons for your hair fall can be:

  • Hormonal Imbalance – Perhaps one of the most common reasons for hair fall or hair loss is an imbalance in the hormones. This is because they play an important role in maintaining the regularity of the hair growth cycle. Oestrogens or the female hormones are considered to be “hair friendly” whereas the Androgens or male hormones are not that hair friendly. An imbalance in the hormones can wreak havoc on your hair by shortening the hair growth cycle.

  • Stress – Intense stress can also make your hair fall out. Somewhere down the line, hormones play an important role in this as well. This is because stress triggers the release of male hormone levels. It can also disrupt your eating habits and mess up your system completely. All these can lead to the hair falling out.

  • Deficiency of iron – Iron deficiency is one of the most common causes of hair loss in women all over the world. This is because iron works best for producing the hair cell protein. In its absence, the strands will suffer.

  • Certain diseases – Diseases such as hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can also lead to hair loss in a major way. For instance, if you leave hypothyroidism untreated, it can also lead to anemia and therefore, your hair will begin to fall.

  • Shock – Sudden shock such as a tragic news or a sudden disease in which the body starts attacking itself (auto-immune disorders), then it can lead to the resting phase of the hair, which leads to hair fall.

These were the reasons why you are shedding more than ideal. For hair fall control tips, keep a tab on this space.
