Importance of Oral Health

Visiting your dentist regularly can make your smile much attractive and they can also tell a lot about your overall health. According to the study, the health of your mouth shows the condition of your whole body. For instance, when your mouth is healthy, your overall health is good too. On the other hand, if you have poor oral health, you might have other health problems.

Poor Oral Health Problems

      1.       Oral and facial pain

Based on the research, this pain may be largely due to infection of the gums that support the teeth and can lead to tooth loss.
      2.       Problems with the heart and other major organs

Mouth infections can affect major organs. For example, the heart and heart valves can become inflamed by bacterial endocarditis, a condition that affects people with heart disease or anyone with damaged heart tissue.
      3.       Digestion problems

Digestion begins with physical and chemical processes in the mouth, and problems here can lead to intestinal failure, irritable bowel syndrome and other digestive disorders.

Good Oral Hygiene Practices at Home

  1. Brush twice a day for at least two minutes using fluoridated toothpaste.
  2. Floss daily to remove plaque from places your toothbrush can’t reach.
  3. To prevent gum disease, eat a healthy diet to give the necessary nutrients, particularly vitamins A and C.
  4. Avoid cigarettes and smokeless tobacco, which are known to contribute to gum disease and oral cancer.
  5. To determine early signs of gum disease, visit the dentist regularly for cleanings and exam.
