Skin pigmentation is irregular discoloration
of the skin and has a number of factors that can contribute to it. The skin condition
affects both men and women at different times of their life. There are
different types of pigmentation and they all require different treatments for skin care in Qatar and elsewhere.
Hence, to get the best possible care for the condition, it is necessary to
understand the types first. Let us look at some of them to get a better
perspective:
1.
Freckles – Freckles also known as Ephelides
develop on the skin when it is repeatedly exposed to sunlight. People with a fair
complexion are more prone to getting freckles, especially on the nose. These become
darker when it is sunny and fade away in the winter months. More often than
not, heredity also has a role to play in this.
2.
Sun spots – Sun spots or solar
lentigines, are pigmented spots that also include a clearly defined boundary
that are caused due to excessive exposure to the UV rays of the sun. These can appear
anywhere on the body and the color of these spots may vary from light brown to
black. If not monitored or treated, these may develop into melanoma or even,
skin cancer. Hence, when you see the earliest signs of these spots, you need to
contact your dermatologist at the earliest.
3.
Melasma – Melasma, also called Cholasma
is a pigmentation that occurs deep in the skin’s dermis. On face, it appears as
large patches that are brown in color and have a non-distinct border. Melasma
is more common in women and are said to be triggered by hormonal fluctuations.
This is the reason why, certain medications, pregnancy and stress can cause it
to happen.
4.
Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation –
Any kind of pigmentation that occurs due to acne, burns, or certain treatments
is called post inflammatory pigmentation. It often gets treated in due time and
can respond to topical products. However, the chances of the pigmentation are
high.
